The Knights Templar of England and Wales is part of the Worldwide Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem. It is an interdenominational / ecumenical Order of Christians having a respect for spiritual and moral values.
It is not possible to tell you everything you might want to know, but if you find it interesting and you feel an affinity with its precepts then, maybe, one day, you too will become a Knight or Dame.The Ordo Supremus Militaris Templi Hierosolymitani Universalis or The Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem to give it its English name has undergone many changes and adjustments over its history. Originally The Order was known as the Poor Knights of Christ and the Temple of Solomon, or, more simply, as the Knights Templar. It has been suggested that the knights were formed to protect fellow Christians on their journey to the Holy Lands to take part in the Crusades. Others have suggested that they were searching for lost 'treasures'. In reality we will never know what was truly in the hearts of these men. What we do know however, is that they existed! One thing commonly suggested is that they seemed to have spent much of their time excavating in the Crypt beneath the mosque. What they were digging for we don't know but the Holy Grail has been suggested, although there is no real consensus as to what the Holy Grail actually is! It has been variously described as the platter which held the bread at the Last Supper, the cup which held the wine, the chalice (perhaps the same cup!) which was used to catch the blood which flowed from the side of the Crucified Christ, the spear belonging to Longinus which pierced the side of Jesus, etc., etc., etc.; even, the 'documentation' which 'proves' that Jesus did not die on the cross, but, according to 'The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail; and 'The Da
Vinci Code; et al, married Mary Magdalene, produced children and thereby
started the 'Merovingian Dynasty'. Whether the Holy Grail exists to this day ;
existed as a physical object at one time but is lost, or is a synonym for
the knowledge obtained might always remain a mystery. Reading and learning
about the Templars of history is fascinating and stimulating. Their
enthusiasm and zeal is to be admired. Whether or not the Grail exists, being
a modern day Templar assists one to find one's inner self, one's path in
life in one's search for God.
